Valerie Forbes Forsyth has over 20 years’ experience in the field of Forensic Toxicology and is a Senior Reporting Scientist for the Forensic Toxicology Department at Cellmark Forensic Services. She has a BSc in Chemistry and a Postgraduate Certificate in Instrumental Analytical Chemistry. Valerie’s early career involved 5 years specialising in the instrumental analysis of equine biological fluids. She was then employed for over 4 years by the Forensic Science Laboratory in South Africa specialising in the analysis of drugs for the South African Police Service. She joined the Toxicology department at Forensic Alliance in 2003 where she trained as a Toxicology reporter reporting a variety of case types but also remained involved in laboratory processes, moving to Cellmark in a similar capacity in 2011. She has been involved in setting up the Toxicology laboratory at Cellmark including validating and accrediting toxicology methods and has reported family law hair cases, Road Traffic Act cases (drugs, alcohol and alcohol technical defences) and Police cases. She has a keen interest in working together with other toxicologists and UKIAFT to maintain quality and face the challenges of today’s Forensic Toxicology field.
