Alexandra is a Senior Forensic Scientist within the Criminal Toxicology Team at the Scottish Police Authority (SPA), Edinburgh.
She holds a BSc(Hons) in Chemistry from Massey University, New Zealand.
She joined the Institute of Environmental Science and Research Ltd (ESR) in Wellington, NZ as a laboratory technician and over the following nine years progressed to become a reporting scientist managing coronial, road traffic and criminal cases.
In 2012 Alexandra moved to the UK and worked at Cellmark Forensic Services, Abingdon for over six years: specialising in the analysis of hair samples and the development/validation of new methods for the implementation of the 2015 drug driving law, which she continued to report and attend court for as required.
Since 2018 she has been employed by the SPA focussing on road traffic and criminal toxicology cases. She assisted readying the laboratory for the implementation of the drug-driving law within Scotland in 2019.
A member of TIAFT and UKIAFT; she has an interest in method validation, method uncertainty and quality management systems. She is enthusiastic about training the next generation of toxicologists and educating police officers, CPS/COPFS and the wider public about the possibilities and limitations of various aspects of toxicology. As a council member she hopes to encourage forensic organisations and other stakeholders to work co-operatively together to further improve and advance forensic toxicology services provided within the UK.
